Beta Sigma Phi ( ‘Life, Learning and Friendship’ ) began in Powell River in 1970 with Doreen Booth being the first Chapter President. A member of the international Beta Sigma Phi, which was founded in 1931, the organization was created to enrich young women in cultural and social activities particularly in the liberal arts. In Powell River there were the following chapters: Beta Psi, Epsilo Nu, Betta Kapa , X1 Gamma X1 and the Laureate Alpha Kappa Chapter. The Powell River Chapters supported the Arthritis Society, sponsored a bursary for a high school student and hosted the Shamrock Ball with the proceeds going to various Powell River Charities.

The collection consists of a binder that was compiled of newspaper articles and forms from the organization.
