James Bichard ( 1864-1933 ) was born and raised in St. Sampson’s Guernsey Island. He married Margaret Crothers and they had two girls and one boy. The family moved to Powell River and James worked for the Powell River Company as a janitor and mail carrier. His hobbies were violin making and his pastime was fishing and sailing. In 1923, he built his boat ‘ Lively’ and sailed it up the Georgia Strait to Okeover Arm and Theodosia Inlet.

The series consists of 143 hand written pages of a 12 day sailing trip from Powell River in his boat ‘ Lively’ up to and including Cortez Island, Okeover Inlet and Theodosia Inlet. Includes references to the Roos family, Palmer family, Mrs. Bloom, Mr. Hanson.
