The series consists of a manuscript which is a biography of Joyce’s father, Gerry Joyce. Gerry Joyce ( 1925-2005 ) was born on the Isle of Wright and almost immediately his family moved to India. They returned to England in 1932. An avid academic student he was also very involved in sports. He joined the Fleet Air Arm Training in 1943 and flew the difficult to fly Corsairs aircraft. He served with the East India Fleet and British Fleet out of Ceylon and Australia between 1944 – 1946. After the Second World War ended he served in various capacities in the Army Air Corp and between 1949-1950 he flew in Hong Kong and Malaya with the Air Support Special Air . He was awarded a DFC for distinguished flying services in Korea. He married Valerie Cockaday ( ? 1927 - ) in 1956 and they emigrated to Vancouver Canada in 1957 there their first child, Sarah, was born that year. The family moved to Powell River in 1959 when Gerry became the Business Manager of the Powell River General Hospital. Son Jeremy was born in 1961 with the last child, Timothy, born in 1967. In 1969, after futher education Joyce was appointed Adminstrator. He successfully secured funding for the new hospital which was eventually built in 1993 after he had retired in 1988. He and his wife spent subsequent years travelling to their childhood haunts. He died in 2005.
