Biographical Sketch: Russell Newcombe is one of four children born to Myrtle (1918 - 2006 ) and Harold (1908 – 1948) Newcombe. His brothers are Arthur, Walter and Gary. Myrtle married Ingvald (Jack) Johan Anderson in 1967. Ingvald [1906-2004 ) born in Norway, moved to Canada in 1924. Anderson had settled at Okeover Arm, Powell River and upon his marriage to Myrtle they returned to his home at Okeover Arm. In 1981 the Andersons moved to Unit 49, Tides Trailer Park in Wildwood, Powell River. Invald was moved to an Extended Care Unit in Powell River in early 2004 due to health problems. He moved to Extended Care in White Rock in Sept 2004 and died when he was 98 years and 5 days old. Myrtle moved to Crescent Beach in August 2004. to be closer to her husband and family.
The four children came to Powell River in March 2005 to scatter Ingvald’s ashes on Okeover Inlet. They went through their Mother’s former house and again marveled at the pictures that the very early owner of the house, E.H. Larson, had painted on the walls. The house burned to the ground on April 9 2005.
Scope and Content: The collection consists of 36 photographs of: the Anderson home and out buildings on Okeover Arm, across from the Government wharf, Ingvald and Myrtle Anderson, other family members, and the Earls Cove ferry terminal.
Source of Title: Title based on content of the collector.
Immediate source of acquisition: Russell Newcombe who took the 2004- 2005
photographs and the Anderson family who took the rest that were in the family album.
