The Powell River & District Agricultural Society fonds: -- 1933 - 1990 -- 60 cm of textual record and 6 photographs

The Powell River & District Horticultural Society was the precursor to the Powell River & District Agricultural Society. The Horticultural Society began in 1933 and was the result of the Cranberry Ratepayers and Community's successful fall fair in Sept 1932. In 1936 the name was changed to Powell River & District Agricultural Society and the assets were transferred at the same time. The Agricultural Society functioned from 1933 - 1939. After WW 11 it re-commenced in 1954 and continued until 1982. After a lapse it was re-incorporated in 1987. This Society was organized mainly for the purpose of promoting the culture of fruits, vegetables and flowers. They also hosted a Fall Fair and from 1954 - 1976 sponsored the Miss Powell River competition. The Association promotes fairs and displays of 4-H and agricultural products and helps to administer the Paradise Exhibition Park. They sponsor the Powell River Fall Fair and the Open Air Market.

The fonds consists of the Powell River & District Agricultural Society records. Includes Certificate of Incorporation and Constitution and by-laws, minutes, correspondence, financial records, legal documents, reports, Miss Powell River, lists, rules and regulations, newsletters, history, clippings, and the Powell River Paradise Exhibition Park sous-fonds.
