The Powell River & District Curling & Skating Club began in 1952. Debentures were sold, fundraisers were held, memberships and curling fees were put forward for the building of the Willingdon Arena in 1955. Upon the opening of the Arena, they operated a concession stand, skate and ice rentals, skate sharpening and hosted special events.
