Powell River Heritage Research Association . - - 1981-2002. – 1.5 metres of textual records.

In 1981 the Powell River Historical Museum thought it would be advantageous to see local history books in order to boost their coffers. Ted Bleiler, museum member, headed this new group called Pioneers Come Alive. They received a New Horizon Grant of $1,595 in 1982. The name was later changed to Powell River Historical Research Committee. The first project of this group was to honour Rod LeMay, a local photographer who chronicled the history of this community from 1907 – 1922, in the form of a 1983 Heritage Calendar. Their first booklet, Powell River Schools 1898-1983 by Alice Cluff was also published that year. In 1984 Karen Southern was voted President and a second calendar was made with some of the photos done by Ellis and told the history of the early Townsite. ‘ Mysterious Powell Lake’ by Carla Mobley was published by Hancock House in that year. 1985 saw another Heritage Calendar made this time paying tribute to the 75 years that the Townsite had been established. The group published their first book of Golden Stanley’s ‘ Pitlighting Through Conscription ‘ that year as well. In 1986 the Heritage Calendar was a tribute to the 1920’s. In that year the name changed again to Powell River Heritage Research Association and the society was registered with the Society Act of British Columbia. In 1987 the group published ‘ The Nelson Island Story’ by Karen Southern and in 1988 they published ‘ Pulp, Paper and People’ by Karen Southern and Peggy Bird. They published a series of books by Bill Thompson, ‘Boats, Bucksaws and Blisters’ in 1990, ‘ Once Upon a Stump ‘ in 1993, ‘ Texada ‘in 1997 and ‘ The Powell River Mill Story ‘ in 2001. Two book projects were not published. The organization dissolved in 2002 and was formally released by the Society Act in 2004.
