Leslie Way ( 1913-1984 ) was born and raised in New Westminster, B.C. He worked as reporter for the Powell River News in the 1930’s. Way had worked at the Trail Times from 1937-1940 before returning to purchase the paper. The News was a frequent winner in the Canadian Weekly Newspaper Association ( CWNA ) competitions. Way served as the British Columbia division president in 1944. In 1945 Way sold the Powell River News to Al Alsgard ( 1910-1978 ) who had started a rival weekly publication, ‘ The Town Crier ‘ in 1933. Way left to start a publishing business in Vancouver and was the Canadian Broadcasting’s ‘ Neighbourly News’ commentator for 15 years. In 1946 Way started The Canadian Weekly Editor a national trade journal. He also started L.C. Way and Associates and was known as ‘ Mr. Weekly’. Way was married to Bea and they had three sons.
