The Wildwood Ratepayers Association Fonds. –1929-1999. – 63 cm of Textual Records.

The Wildwood Ratepayers Association began in 1929 with the following mandate: ‘To strive for the betterment and advancement of Wildwood and to promote the interests of the residents of the said community.’ The initial name was the ‘Wildwood Welfare League’ and it was changed in 1944 to ‘The Wildwood Ratepayers Welfare Association’.
Committees were struck in order to deal with the growing community. The Wildwood Improvement District committee, included the Wildwood Light District Incorporated Committee, which was formed to bring in electricity to Wildwood. Jack Banham was an elected trustee of the Light District committee and he planned the layout for the installation of the line and drew up the blue prints. Electricity was brought in 1932. This committee eventually became the Wildwood Light, Water and Sewerage District. Volunteer labour culminated in having water from Powell Lake pumped up to Wildwood in 1945. In 1955 with the advent of the amalgamation of the four districts of Powell River, BC Electric Railway Company entered into an agreement to purchase the Wildwood Light, Water & Sewerage District’s electric transmission, distribution and street lighting systems.
